The White Cloud Mountain Minnow (Tanichthys albonubes) is an extremely hardy, peaceful schooling fish originating from southern China. Growing to just 1.5 inches, these vibrant fish are ideal for beginner aquarists, nano tanks, and unheated or coldwater aquariums. They are easily fed and bred, making them a favorite for aquarists of all levels.
The standard variety—often called the "poor man's neon"—features a dark bronze body with a luminous white/blue stripe and red fins. However, several selectively bred color morphs are popular in the hobby:
As omnivores, White Cloud Mountain Minnows are not fussy eaters. They thrive on a staple of high-quality, fine flakes or micro pellets. Supplementing their diet with small live or frozen foods (like daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms) enhances their vibrant colors and encourages spawning behavior.
