Spotted Dwarf Rasbora
Product Details

The Spotted Dwarf Rasbora (Boraras maculatus) is a tiny, highly sought-after freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia. Maxing out at just 2.5 cm (1 inch), it is perfect for nano-aquariums. They are known for their striking orange-red bodies and prominent dark spots.

Care Overview

  • Size: Up to 2.5 cm (1 inch)
  • Temperament: Peaceful but extremely shy
  • School Size: Groups of 8 or more to reduce stress and show the best color
  • Diet: Micropredator; thrives on live or frozen foods like Daphnia and baby brine shrimp, as well as crushed flakes.

Because they are timid shoaling fish, they should always be kept in groups of at least 8–10 in heavily planted tanks with dark substrates.

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 23–28°C (73–82°F)
  • pH: Soft, slightly acidic water (6.0 - 7.0, though they can adapt)
  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons for a small school

Ideal Tank Mates

Due to their small size and skittish nature, tank mates must be small and peaceful to prevent them from becoming food or getting stressed out. Good companions include:

  • Pygmy Corydoras
  • Kuhli Loaches
  • Otocinclus catfish
  • Dwarf shrimp (such as Caridina and Neocaridina)

This delicate and vibrant species is a wonderful addition to any well-maintained nano-aquarium. Their peaceful nature and stunning appearance make them a favorite among aquarists.
