Sparkling Gourami

Trichopsis pumila, commonly known as the Sparkling Gourami or Pygmy Gourami, is a stunning, iridescent nano fish native to Southeast Asia. Growing to just 1.5 inches, it is celebrated for its shimmering scales, peaceful temperament, and the unique, audible "croaking" sound that males produce during mating.

• Tank Mates: Best kept with other small, non-aggressive species like nano rasboras, ember tetras, or dwarf shrimp. Avoid aggressive or nippy fish (like male bettas) that may outcompete or stress them.

Behavior & Breeding

As labyrinth fish, Sparkling Gouramis possess a specialized organ that allows them to breathe atmospheric air. Males build bubble nests on the surface of the water, typically hidden under broad plant leaves or floating vegetation. During breeding, males perform an elaborate display, gently wrapping themselves around the female before guarding the nest of eggs.
