Snakeskin Barb

The Snakeskin Barb (Desmopuntius rhomboocellatus) is a peaceful, schooling freshwater fish native to the blackwater swamps of Borneo, Indonesia. Known for its maze-like "snakeskin" pattern and reddish fins, it grows to about 2 to 2.5 inches. Unlike the notorious Tiger Barb, it is highly community-safe with minimal fin-nipping tendencies.

  Mid-level, active swimmers that can be slightly timid; best housed with similarly sized, short-finned community fish.

  Omnivorous. They accept high-quality flakes and micro-pellets, and thrive on supplemental live or frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms.

  Prefer heavily planted tanks with driftwood and subdued, dimmer lighting to mimic their natural shadowed habitat.
