Rotala Rotundifolia (Bean Stalk)
Product Details

Rotala rotundifolia, commonly known as the Bean Stalk or Dwarf Rotala, is a popular, fast-growing amphibious stem plant native to Southeast Asia. It features slender upright stems and transforms from rounded green emersed leaves into narrow, vibrant pink or red submersed leaves under strong light.

Care and Requirements

  • Difficulty: Easy; highly adaptable and hardy for beginners.
  • Placement: Midground or background.
  • Lighting: Moderate to high; intense light is required to bring out pink and red hues.
  • CO2 and Nutrients: Beneficial for dense growth and bright coloration, but it can survive in low-tech setups with greener leaves.
  • Water Parameters: Temperature 68°–86°F (20°–30°C); pH 5.5–7.5.

Growth and Maintenance

  • Growth Rate: Fast (2–5 cm per week).
  • Pruning: Regular trimming is essential to prevent lower stems from being shaded and dropping leaves. This also encourages a thick, bushy shape.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated by cutting the top few inches of a healthy stem and replanting it into the substrate.
