Polypterus senegalus, commonly known as the Senegal bichir or dinosaur bichir, is an ancient, primitive freshwater fish native to Africa. Highly recognizable by its elongated, snake-like body, armor-like ganoid scales, and series of dorsal finlets, it is a popular, hardy, and long-lived addition to large freshwater aquariums.
