Nymphaea lotus 'Green', commonly known as the Green Tiger Lotus, is an undemanding, bulbous aquatic plant native to Africa. It is prized for its vibrant green foliage, reddish-brown variegation, and striking dark mottling.
Appearance:
Bright green, heart-shaped to oval leaves featuring unique red or purple streaks and speckles.
Growth Habit:
Grows rapidly from a tuber/bulb, initially forming a dense, compact underwater rosette before potentially sending long stems to the surface to create floating lily pads.
Size:
Reaches a height or spread of 20–80 cm (8–31 inches) depending on tank space and pruning.
Placement:
Best utilized as a midground centerpiece or standalone specimen in medium-to-large aquariums.
Lighting:
Adapts to low through high lighting, though moderate-to-high light intensifies contrast and encourages tighter growth.
Substrate & Feeding:
A heavy root feeder that thrives with a nutrient-dense substrate or regular application of root tabs alongside liquid column fertilizers.
Planting Method:
Plant the bulb with only the bottom quarter to half pressed into the substrate, leaving the top exposed to prevent the bulb from rotting.
Maintenance:
Regular pruning of tall, upward-reaching stems is recommended if you prefer a bushy, submerged shape rather than surface-floating pads.
