The Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi) is a vibrant, small freshwater fish native to the Amazon River basin. Renowned for its electric blue horizontal stripe and bright red tail, it is a staple for both beginner and experienced aquarium hobbyists.

• Size: Grows up to 1.5 inches (4 cm).
• Lifespan: 2 to 5 years in captivity.
• Temperament: Peaceful and active, making them ideal for community tanks.

Ideal Aquarium Conditions

• Tank Size: A minimum of 10 to 15 gallons.
• Water Temperature: 70°F to 81°F (21°C to 27°C).
• pH Level: Slightly acidic, between 6.0 and 7.0.
• Environment: They thrive in heavily planted tanks with dim lighting, dark substrate, and slow water flow, which mimics their natural blackwater habitat.

Care & Diet

• Schooling: These are highly social schooling fish. They must be kept in groups of at least 6 to 10 to prevent stress, shyness, and poor coloration.
• Diet: As omnivores, they accept high-quality flakes, micropellets, and frozen or live foods like daphnia and brine shrimp.
• Disease: They are susceptible to Neon Tetra Disease (NTD), a parasitic condition that causes loss of color and cysts.
