Hydrocotyle Leucocephala (Brazillian Pennywort)
Product Details

Hydrocotyle leucocephala, commonly known as Brazilian Pennywort, is a fast-growing, bright green, and versatile semi-aquatic plant native to Central and South America. It is widely used by beginners and experts alike as an easy-to-maintain freshwater aquarium or pond plant.

Plant Profile & Appearance

  • Leaves: Round, coin-shaped, or kidney-shaped light green leaves resembling tiny lily pads.
  • Stems: Thin, flexible, and trailing, capable of reaching heights or lengths of up to 24–60 inches.
  • Growth Type: Can grow fully submerged in a tank, creep along the substrate, or float freely at the water surface. It can also grow emersed out of the water, where it may bloom tiny white flowers.

Care Requirements

  • Temperature: 20°C to 28°C (68°F to 82°F).
  • Water pH: 5.0 to 8.0.
  • Lighting: Low to high intensity. Low light keeps it compact, while bright light accelerates upward growth.
  • CO₂ & Fertilizer: CO₂ injection is not required, but regular liquid fertilizers and iron supplements help prevent yellowing leaves.
  • Maintenance: Its fast growth requires regular trimming to prevent it from shading out other plants.

Whether you’re a novice or an expert aquarist, Brazilian Pennywort is a fantastic choice for adding vibrant greenery to your aquatic setup!
