Hoplisoma trilineatum (False Julii)

Hoplisoma trilineatum (formerly Corydoras trilineatus), commonly known as the three-lined cory or false julii corydoras, is a peaceful, schooling freshwater catfish native to South America. Growing to about 5–6 cm, they are highly popular in community aquariums and are distinguished by a network of reticulated patterns and a distinct dark stripe along their sides.

To keep these bottom-dwelling fish healthy, provide an environment that mimics their natural flowing, oxygen-rich river habitats:

• Tank Size: Minimum of 75 liters (20 gallons) to accommodate a proper school.
• School Size: Best kept in groups of 5 or more of their own kind.
• Water Temperature: 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F).
• Water pH: 6.0 to 8.0.
• Substrate: Fine, soft sand is strongly recommended. Their sensitive barbels (whiskers) can be damaged by sharp gravel.
• Diet: Scavenging omnivores. They readily accept sinking bottom pellets, granules, and frozen or live foods like bloodworms and daphnia.

Behavior & Identification

These social fish are constantly active, sifting through the substrate to forage for food. They are often confused with the true Hoplisoma julii, but H. trilineatum features more pronounced, solid lateral stripes and an intricate, lace-like (reticulated) pattern on the head, rather than distinct, separate leopard spots.
