Product details

Hara jerdoni, widely known as the Asian Stone Catfish or Dwarf Anchor Catfish, is a tiny, heavily camouflaged freshwater catfish native to India and Bangladesh. Growing to a maximum length of only 3 to 4 cm (1.2–1.6 inches), this highly peaceful, nocturnal scavenger is an incredibly popular addition to small and peaceful community aquariums.

Key Characteristics & Care Requirements

Appearance:

  • Large heads, long pectoral fins, and specialized mouths that allow them to scrape substrates.
  • Mottled brown/grey pattern that provides perfect camouflage with gravel and small rocks.

Tank Size & Setup:

  • Perfect for nano tanks starting around 30–40 liters.
  • Requires soft, clean, and highly oxygenated water.
  • Needs plenty of hiding spots such as driftwood, plants, and smooth, fine gravel.

Temperature & Water:

  • Prefers cooler, subtropical temperatures rather than tropical extremes.
  • Ideal conditions: 18°C–24°C (64°F–75°F) with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5.

Temperament:

  • Exceptionally peaceful; will not harm other fish or even baby shrimp.
  • Highly social with their own kind; feels most secure when kept in small groups (3 to 6 or more).

Diet:

  • Slow-moving and nocturnal, making them prone to being outcompeted by faster fish.
  • Do not easily accept standard flakes.
  • Require sinking, meaty, live or frozen foods (e.g., baby brine shrimp, micro-worms, or daphnia) dropped in after the lights go out.
