Golden X-Ray/Pristella Tetra

The Golden X-Ray Tetra, also known scientifically as Pristella maxillaris or the Gold Pristella Tetra, is a hardy, peaceful, and translucent freshwater aquarium fish native to South America.

Appearance:

• Features a translucent, golden-yellow or silvery body where the spine and internal organs are partially visible.
• Complemented by pale red/pink tails and yellow-white fin bands.

Size & Lifespan:

• Grows up to 1.5 to 2 inches (4.5 to 5 cm).
• Lives for about 4 years.

Behavior:

• Highly social, active schooling fish.
• Must be kept in groups of at least 6 to 8 individuals to prevent stress and skittishness.

Tank Size:

• Requires a minimum of 10 gallons, though 20 gallons or more is preferred for a healthy school.

Water Parameters:

• Thrives in temperatures between 74–80°F (24–28°C).
• Prefers a pH level of 6.0 to 8.0 and general water hardness of 4–18 GH.

Diet:

• Omnivorous; easily accepts:
  • High-quality flakes.
  • Micro pellets.
  • Frozen and live meaty foods like brine shrimp or daphnia.

Compatibility:

• Excellent for peaceful community tanks with:
