As they slowly break down, they release beneficial tannins that naturally lower water pH, soften the water, and provide antimicrobial properties that protect fish from common infections.

Preparation Guide

To prevent introducing pesticides, dirt, or unwanted pests into your display tank:

• Rinse thoroughly in clean, running tap water to remove surface dust.
• Boil or soak the leaves. Boiling for 5–10 minutes will quickly sanitize the leaves, help them sink, and release a large burst of tannins.
• Cool and add to the aquarium, ideally starting with just 1-2 leaves per 5 gallons of water.
