Cryptocoryne axelrodi

Cryptocoryne axelrodi (frequently considered a synonym or variant of Cryptocoryne undulata) is a hardy, decorative aquatic rosette plant native to Sri Lanka. It features narrow, lance-shaped, slightly wavy leaves that shift in color from olive green to rich bronze-brown with dark marbling.

Tank Requirements

Placement:
Ideal midground plant for nano or standard freshwater setups.

Lighting:
Low to moderate; higher light enhances brownish-red tones.

Temperature:
22–28 °C (72–82 °F).

Water pH:
6.0 to 7.5.

Substrate:
Requires a nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs, as it feeds heavily through its root system.

CO₂:
Not mandatory, though moderate injection promotes robust growth.

Care & Maintenance

Growth Rate:
Slow to moderate.

Propagation:
Spreads slowly via underground runners or by splitting the rhizome.

Crypt Melt:
Prone to shedding its leaves when first planted or if water parameters shift drastically. Leave the undisturbed roots alone, and new growth will emerge.
