Overview and Characteristics

• Appearance: Brown shell with darker stripes paired with a dark or black body. This is closest to the natural wild-type coloration.
• Size: Grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter.
• Lifespan: Typically lives 1 to 3 years with proper care.

Tank Care and Environment

• Water Parameters: Prefers a temperature of 20–28°C (68–82°F) and a pH range between 6.8 and 7.6.
• Diet: Omnivorous scavenger that eats algae, biofilm, leftover fish food, and blanched vegetables. They are generally safe for live planted tanks.
• Special Needs: Requires calcium supplementation to keep their shells strong and healthy. They are extremely sensitive to copper-based medications.
