Black Schultzei Cory

The Black Schultzei Corydora (Osteogaster schultzei 'Black', often sold as the Black Venezuelan Cory) is a rare, striking color morph of the popular Bronze Cory. Known for its jet-black body and dark brown or reddish fins, this fish is a hardy, peaceful bottom-dweller. It thrives in a tank with soft sand, a group of 5+ individuals, and a minimum tank size of 60 liters.

Natural Behavior & Tank Setup

These catfish spend most of their time sifting through the substrate in search of food. As bottom-dwellers, fine, soft sand is crucial to prevent injury to their sensitive barbels (whiskers). They feel most secure in planted tanks with driftwood and areas to hide. It's normal for them to swim to the surface occasionally to gulp air.

Community Compatibility

Due to their docile nature, Black Schultzei Corydoras should be kept with other peaceful community fish, such as tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids. They add excellent motion and personality to the bottom of the tank by constantly foraging along the aquarium floor.
