Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam)

Temperament: Territorial and aggressive toward other males

Appearance

The male veiltail features an asymmetric, long caudal (tail) fin that droops downward in a sweeping curve like a veil. Their long dorsal and anal fins match this draping look. They come in many bright colors, including blue, red, white, and green.

Tank Requirements

• Tank Size: At least 35 litres (9 US gallons)
• Water Temperature: 24°C – 28°C (75°F – 82°F) using a reliable heater
• Water pH: 6.5 – 7.5
• Filter: A gentle sponge filter is best so strong currents do not tear their delicate fins.
• Decorations: Use live or smooth silk plants. Avoid sharp plastic plants that can rip their long tails.

Behavior and Tank Mates

• Solitary Living: Males must be kept alone. They will fight other male bettas to the death.
• Tank Mates: They can live with peaceful, non-fin-nipping fish or snails in a larger tank but may chase very small fish or shrimp.
• Labyrinth Organ: Like other bettas, they have a special organ that lets them breathe air from the water's surface.

Diet

• Food: High-protein betta pellets or micro-granules as a base. Supplement with frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, or bloodworms.
