Appearance and Genetics

Coloration: Features a distinct orange base combined with splashes of red, white, or black markings derived from marble and koi genetics.

Finnage: Short Plakat-style fins that reduce swimming drag and lower the risk of tearing compared to long-finned varieties.

Sexing Indicators: Shorter fins, a smaller overall body size, and a visible white ovipositor (egg spot) near the ventral side.

Tank Requirements and Care

Tank Size: Minimum of 10 gallons (38 liters) for a single female or larger if keeping a structured group.

Water Parameters: Temperature range of 76–82°F (24–28°C) and a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5.

Environment: Well-planted aquariums with smooth driftwood, broad-leaved resting places, and gentle filtration.

Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on high-protein floating betta pellets, bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp.

Behavior and Compatibility

Temperament: Semi-aggressive to peaceful; less territorial than males, but individual personalities vary.

Community Tanks: Generally compatible with peaceful, non-fin-nipping community fish.

Sororities: Can be housed in groups (often 3 to 5+ individuals) provided the tank is heavily planted with plenty of line-of-sight breaks to manage territorial chasing.
