Product Details
A Plakat Betta is a short-finned, compact variety of Siamese fighting fish native to Southeast Asia. Known for being highly active and robust, they boast vibrant colors and are less prone to fin damage than long-finned varieties.
Key Characteristics & Care
Appearance & Size
- Fins: Short, stocky fins that resemble wild-type bettas. Their anal fins are more pointed compared to traditional long-tailed bettas.
- Colors: Available in virtually every color pattern, including solid, bi-color, koi, and galaxy.
- Size: Grow up to 3 inches (approx. 7.6 cm) in length.
Temperament & Behavior
- Aggressive: Originally bred for Thai fish-fighting sports, Plakats are highly territorial and feisty. Males should never be housed together.
- Active: Because they do not drag heavy, long fins, they are strong swimmers and much more active than Halfmoon or Veiltail bettas.
Tank Setup & Maintenance
- Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons is the recommended minimum.
- Water Temperature: Tropical fish requiring 24°C to 28°C (76°F to 82°F).
- Filtration & Plants: Gentle filtration and plenty of hiding spots or resting leaves are required.

High-quality, protein-rich betta pellets combined with occasional live or frozen treats.
