Product Details
Key Benefits
  • Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties: Arjuna pods contain bioactive compounds such as tannins, flavonoids, and saponins which have natural antibacterial and antifungal effects, contributing to a healthier ecosystem and potentially reducing the need for medications.
  • Tannin Release: The pods slowly release tannins, which can naturally lower and stabilize the water's pH levels, creating an environment that many fish and invertebrates prefer, especially those from blackwater regions. The tannins also provide the water with a natural, brownish tint.
  • Stress Reduction: The tannins and natural environment created by the pods can help reduce stress in fish, which is important for a healthy immune system and overall well-being.
  • Natural Habitat Simulation: The pods act as natural botanical material, providing shelter and a place for beneficial biofilm to grow, which serves as a valuable food source for shrimp and small fish.
  • Immune System Support: Research, primarily conducted using Terminalia arjuna bark powder as a feed additive in aquaculture, indicates it can act as an immunomodulator, enhancing the fish's immune function and resistance to pathogens.
How to Use Arjuna Pods
  1. Preparation is Key: Before adding the pods to your aquarium, you should prepare them to ensure they sink and to remove any initial burst of organic compounds or potential contaminants.
  2. Boil: Boil the pods for 15-30 minutes to waterlog them so they sink and to sterilize them. Boiling for a longer period will leach out more tannins initially, resulting in less water tint over time if desired.
  3. Soak: After boiling, soak them in cold, fresh water to cool them down and allow them to fully waterlog before placing them in your tank.
  4. Placement: Add them to your aquarium, where they will slowly decompose over time. You can use 1-2 pods per 10 gallons of water per month as a general guideline.
  5. Replacement: Replace the pods when they have fully decomposed or when their beneficial effects (tannin release, etc.) have diminished.
By incorporating arjuna pods, you can create a more natural, chemically balanced, and pathogen-resistant environment for your fish.
